An exercise becomes useful when it examines how a decision is made as information changes and time runs short. The practice designs scenarios and analytical materials for boards and committees, connecting cyber threats, geopolitical developments, and AI risks with the dependencies the organization wants to explore.
Plan a scenario for your board
The engagement starts with the capability to examine: authorizing an operational alternative, recognizing when to escalate, assessing conflicting information, or recording the reasons for a decision. It is intended for boards, crisis committees, senior management, and risk and security functions preparing a structured exercise, including exercises delivered through the client’s existing platforms.
Because a simulation cannot examine every organizational capability, its audience, processes, and starting conditions are defined before the scenario is developed. These boundaries also determine what the exercise can reasonably reveal and which questions will need a different form of assessment.
The sequence introduces progressive information, competing hypotheses, and prompts that require verification or escalation. Each development serves the agreed objectives, so that pressure brings information gaps, responsibilities, and dependencies into view. Materials distinguish what participants could know at a particular moment from the information available to the scenario designer, rather than treating hindsight as evidence of what should have been obvious.
The scenario dossier defines context, dependencies, objectives, and decision points. A sequence of updates supports the evolving crisis, while observation and debrief materials include assessment criteria, a decision log template, and questions for the final review. Facilitation is defined in the project; observation and a session debrief are included only when agreed. The service provides analytical content rather than platform development or technical operation, keeping responsibilities clear before the exercise begins.
In an illustrative scenario, reports of a destructive campaign in a subsidiary’s host country coincide with a loss of communications with its plant, while business functions receive conflicting accounts. Successive updates examine who can authorize alternative procedures, which information must reach senior management, and how the decision is recorded, while keeping any geopolitical explanation distinct from established facts. The scenario does not describe a real client or predict an actual incident.
An initial inquiry only needs to identify the intended audience, general objective, and proposed timing. Please do not attach confidential documents. The discussion establishes scope, required materials, and intended use, allowing the proposal to specify what will be delivered and which parts of the exercise remain the client’s responsibility.
